For the 11th time, the Woka Kuma Festival invites you to discover the diversity of Burkina Faso\u2019s art and culture. Once again this year, visitors can look forward to a varied program featuring music, film, dance, discussions, exhibitions, and culinary specialties.<\/p>\n
2026 Theme: Faso Danfani \u2013 Fashion, Identity, and Global Responsibility<\/p>\n
This year, special attention is being paid to an important cultural asset of Burkina Faso: the traditional Faso Danfani fabric. As a symbol of cultural identity, artisanal tradition, and local value creation, Faso Danfani is at the center of a program that explores the connection between fashion, culture, and social responsibility.<\/p>\n
To introduce this cultural heritage to a wider audience, we will screen the documentary \u201cLa Sir\u00e8ne du Faso Fani\u201d (2014) by director Michel K. Zongo. This will be followed by a discussion and a panel on the topic \u201cGlobal Responsibility of Fashion and Tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n
As a special guest, the renowned designer Black Urban Chic will present his collections and creative work and offer insights into the contemporary African fashion scene.<\/p>\n
Mali in the Spotlight<\/p>\n
This year, the festival is dedicating special attention to our neighboring country, Mali. In times of great political and social challenges, we wish to honor the country\u2019s cultural ties and cultural richness.<\/p>\n

On Saturday and Sunday, we\u2019re offering various workshops on this year\u2019s theme, \u201cFaso Danfani, Cultural Identity, and Global Responsibility.\u201d Together, we\u2019ll discuss the role of the Global North in the production, marketing, and consumption of fashion, as well as issues of cultural mediation and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
Another highlight is the masterclass in traditional African dance on Sunday, which offers insights into the movements, history, and cultural expressions of African dance traditions.<\/p>\n
